I haven’t updated this little news section in a couple months and there are certainly but that doesn’t mean things haven’t been buzzing! A few of the comics have been stumbled upon/tumbl’d/linked from various sources recently and that’s great! I’m glad there are people I don’t know who are reading and enjoying the comics. If you’re a new visitor, I welcome and thank you. If we were meeting in person I would shake your hand and convey my gratitude through deep, uninterrupted eye contact. BUT WAIT! You we CAN meet in person and share pleasantries at the Small Press Expo in North Bethesda, MD on September 10th and 11th. I’ll be there with my actual brother Kevin Czap and superfriend Liz Suburbia . We’d love to meet you!

A section for other animations that aren’t in a series has been added to the site, yes! If you haven’t seen The Mouse and the Lion, then I suggest you do so! It was posted here about a month ago, but got lost in the redesign shuffle. The comics have been getting positive feedback, which is good news! There’s quite a few queued up right now and I can’t wait to post them. I haven’t been this enthusiastic about comics in a while. If you see one you like, share it with a friend! I’ve been purchasing some ad space, but nothing is more powerful than word of mouth. In fact, nothing may be more powerful than a mouth. NOTHING.

Well it’s no surprise that I wasn’t chosen as one of the finalists for the Post’s next great cartoonist challenge. Most of the finalists look just like some of the same dull strips you find in the papers today. I was extremely baffled by this one in particular. Losing isn’t so bad, but losing to shit like this just doesn’t even make sense. The judges’ comments aren’t even favorable! When you have a name for a contest that’s called ‘America’s Next Great Cartoonist’ you would expect the quality of the finalists to be better than some a-typical shit webcomic. It’s my fault for holding out hope that something that came from the newspapers wouldn’t be a complete disappointment. It’s kind of like how Conan O’Brien really wanted to host the tonight show even though he had to water down his act for a demographic of aging dinosaurs. He was pretty much free to do whatever he wanted in his old time slot, and had his own audience that loved it. It was all about the prestige and history of the Tonight Show. There’s no reason to be in newspapers if you aspire to be a cartoonist. You can be free and find your own audience without having the hassle of an outdated distribution model.

So I’ll be updating on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday Schedule for the next few weeks. Enjoy.

I recently came down with the itch to draw comics, and when I say itch it really means I want to win the Washington Post Cartoonist contest thing they’re doing. I’m not sure what the deal is with posting the comics I’m going to submit, so I’m going to wait until I find out it’s ok. In the meantime I’m going to work on switching all the animations to their own pages. Comicpress really wasn’t built for animation and it was a giant hassle trying to force it to work.

Yes, Eatthattoast.com is back! You might not have noticed it was gone, but it certainly was, take my word on it. I’m going to be uploading the old Robotbox and Cactus archives in the next few days. If you have an interest in poorly executed and bland webtoons circa 2004 then I highly suggest you check it out. After I’m done uploading and tagging all those I’ll work on the Hot Ham Water (which will be returning under a new name) , and after that…new animation! You heard me, there will be all new things you’ve never seen before. Although if you haven’t seen it before, it’s all fresh stuff!
